small enough to care...

Value Added: The time available pre-construction for this project was extremely limited due to the proposed commencement date for works. The initial site meeting to discuss the work took place on 24/11/06, and the specification and project costing was completed and agreed within 2 weeks. This was necessary in order to arrange for the alterations to the heating pipework to be undertaken over the Christmas shutdown when the school was not occupied.

As the work was carried out during term time, temporary toilet accommodation was required for the duration of the project. As this project was in an Infant school a standard temporary WC block was not suitable and therefore we engaged Rollalong Ltd early on during the planning stage and asked them to provide a WC block specially altered to suit Infant pupils.

In terms of design, initially it was proposed to re-site the existing washbasins onto a new duct framework and to pack out the upstand on which the soap dispensers were mounted in order that the pupils could reach them. However in order to increase space and improve aesthetics we proposed the use of vanity units with semi recessed basins, which removed the need to pack out the upstand.

The Result: A top quality toilet refurbishment delivered on time and within budget. Working under particular time constraints, pre and during construction, and overcoming issues on site set up, sequencing and successfully working within occupied premises without compromising day to day operations. The cost of the project also came in below the original budget, despite the addition of a few variations requested during construction.
